Expert: High-speed Internet used by less than 1% of Russians
MOSCOW, Mar 30 (PRIME) -- Less than 1% of Russian households use the Internet at a speed of more than 100 megabits per second, while high-speed access is more popular in Asia, research company J’son and Partners Consulting said Wednesday in a statement.
“Domestic operators are inclined to think that there is no need so far in high-speed Internet tariff plans. Users’ equipment and Internet resources are not ready for such a race,” the company said.
“Operators think that growth in demand for high-speed access would be supported by a higher number of users within a single household; development of new, high-quality video formats, like 4Ê and 8K; spherical and cirñular video; various services, such as expansion of cloud storage; “smart home”; and the like.”
Foreign operators position “gigabit” tariff plans as a convenient offer ensuring high-quality of services and online entertainment. South Korean and Japanese companies provide Internet at a speed of 1 gigabit per second.
